At-home hair removal
Use a home laser device safely and effectively
IPL and at-home laser devices can deliver real results when you choose the right tool, prep your skin, and stay consistent. This guide covers everything you need to know.

Choose the right device
Look for IPL or diode-laser devices with skin-tone sensors, adjustable intensity levels, and a clear treatment window. Check that the device is FDA-cleared or has equivalent safety certification in your region.
Prep your skin properly
Shave the treatment area clean the day of or the day before. Avoid waxing, plucking, or epilating. Skip strong actives like retinol, AHAs, and BHAs for 48 hours before and after treatment.
Do a patch test
Test on a small, discreet area at the lowest intensity. Wait 48 hours to confirm your skin tolerates the light energy without blistering, darkening, or prolonged redness.
Build a consistent schedule
Most devices recommend weekly sessions for the first 4–12 weeks, then monthly maintenance. Consistency matters more than intensity. Set reminders so you don't skip treatments.
Protect and soothe after treatment
Apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer or aloe vera gel. Avoid hot showers, saunas, and sun exposure for 24–48 hours. Use SPF daily on treated areas.
Important safety note
At-home laser and IPL devices are not suitable for everyone. They may not be safe on very dark skin, very light hair, tanned skin, or certain medical conditions. Always read the manufacturer's instructions, perform a patch test, and consult a dermatologist if you are unsure.
